Hollywood is mourning the loss of a beloved figure behind the scenes. Mason Haynes, the celebrated celebrity bodyguard who kept some of the world’s biggest stars safe, has passed away. He was 52.
According to a GoFundMe page established for his family, Haynes tragically died in a motorcycle accident on July 4.
“Two days before what would have been his 53rd birthday, Mason’s life was taken far too soon in a tragic road traffic accident,” the fundraising page stated. “He leaves behind his devoted wife Fay, his daughter Brooke, his son Noah, a loving family, and an extraordinary circle of friends spread across the world.”
Remembered by those who knew him best as a “protector,” “mentor” and “a giant in every sense of the word, with an even bigger heart,” the fundraiser was launched to support his wife and two children during this incredibly difficult time. The goal is to ensure he “gets the send-off he truly deserves – a celebration of a life that touched so many people.” Additionally, the contributions will “help ease some of the immediate financial pressures that inevitably follows such a sudden and devastating loss.”
His employer, Trojan Security UK, honored his legacy on Instagram on July 6, posting a poignant snapshot of Haynes working alongside Kris Jenner.
“We would like to pay homage to an absolute legend in the Close Protection game. Big Mason. Gone too soon,” the company wrote. “Rest easy and fly high Brother 🕊️.”
During his impressive career, Haynes became a go-to for A-listers. In a 2018 interview with London Now, he reflected on his path to the industry, noting that he had worked with stars including Kevin Hart, Charlie Puth, Lewis Hamilton and Nicki Minaj.
Haynes explained that he first entered the security field after returning to school in his 20s, sharing that he “needed a part-time job to support my education.”
“I then found a full-time job in Scorpion Security, who were the security company hired by Café De Paris in London, among others. Because there were a number of celebrity patrons, I started doing what you might call ‘close protection’, which became permanent contracts with several celebrities.”
Among those famous faces were the Kardashians, with Haynes specifically noting his work for Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kanye West.
