The Super Bowl halftime show remains a hot topic as fans continue to debate whether the NFL and Roc Nation made the right decision. While many music and sports enthusiasts feel that Lil Wayne was snubbed from performing in his hometown of Louisiana, others believe that Kendrick Lamar was the appropriate choice, given his outstanding year and undeniable talent as a performer.
Veteran rapper LL Cool J has now weighed in on the discussion. Rather than debate who deserves the spotlight, he has chosen to accept the situation as it is.
During an episode of Fat Joe Talks on Friday (Oct. 18), LL Cool J gave Wayne, often referred to as the G.O.A.T., his flowers but expressed his support for Kendrick’s moment in the limelight. He stated, “[Lil Wayne’s] one of our great artists, he’s an unbelievable writer. He’ll have his day — let Kendrick get that.” Cool J added, “Here’s the thing: Your time will come [and] you’ll have your day; You’ll have your time. You can’t let [this] break you. The only reason it makes me laugh is because I know how blessed he is, how successful he is. So he don’t need to worry about that moment. It’s just a moment, bro. It’s just one moment.”
As previously reported, news broke in September that Kendrick Lamar will headline Super Bowl LIX. While he received widespread celebration for this opportunity, Lil Wayne later expressed his devastation over not being chosen for the big gig.
He candidly shared, “That hurt. It hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a whole lot,” in a video posted to Instagram. “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. … But I thought that was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt.” The “Love Me” rapper assured his fans, “I’m working on me, and I’m working. So, thank you.”
The Super Bowl LIX halftime show is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2025.
