Yas, we love to see it! Last night Lizzo took home the #Fearlessness award at our very own #HollywoodUnlockedImpactAwards and gave a heartwarming speech.  During her speech, Lizzo announced she is committing to making  a major donation to Planned Parenthood following the United States Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Lizzo took the stage and explained the reasons why she makes music. “I make music because I wanted to make people feel something and I strongly believe if you can make people feel something you can make people move something. It seems like we’re always faced with a human crisis like the global pandemic or institutionalized racism or the bans that lawmakers put on our bodies and it can be a very scary ride for someone who is getting a fearless award.”

Lizzo went on to explain that she’ll donate $500,000 of her upcoming “Special Tour” money to Planned Parenthood. Live Nation, the tour’s promoter, will add an additional $500,000, making for a $1 million total donation!

“I pledged my $500,000 to planned parenthood and abortion funds and Live Nation matched my place so now we’re giving 1 million dollars to people who truly need resources and help for how they overturned Roe V. Wade.”

As we previously reported, on Friday (June 24, 2022) , in a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which initially allowed women to have an abortion.

The new ruling now remands the issue of abortion back to the states to regulate abortions; which dozens have already begun to enact upon, implementing the strict ban once again.

It’s reported that the majority of those who had a role in the decision, upheld Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

This was the case that directly challenged Roe v. Wade’s ban on most abortion restrictions.

After the decision was made the Supreme Court majority Justice released a statement explaining the decision.“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely — the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences.”
