Back in January 2023, we first learned that Presley was listed in critical condition and placed into an induced coma after suffering from a cardiac arrest. Before being placed on life support and given a temporary pacemaker in the intensive care unit (ICU), Presley’s housekeeper first discovered her unresponsive in a bedroom at her home in the Los Angeles area.

Presley’s husband, Danny Keough, tried to perform CPR on her until paramedics arrived and rushed her to a nearby hospital. Prior to reaching the hospital, medics administered one epinephrine shot, which restored her pulse. It was said that before being found unresponsive, Presley complained of severe stomach pains before becoming ill.

And just two days prior to her medical emergency, she had attended the Golden Globes with her mother Priscilla Presley, and watched actor Austin Butler win an award for his portrayal of her father Elvis Presley in the film ‘Elvis.’

After suffering two cardiac arrests and being placed into a coma on life support, Presley’s family said she became brain dead and flatlined, following the second attack. Beforehand, the family told doctors if her condition worsened, as it did, “do not resuscitate.”

Six months after her Presley’s passing, details on the cause of her death are being reported. Per TMZ, they received a document from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner that claimed Presley died of complications resulting from a small bowel obstruction. A toxicology report was also conducted, and the results reportedly showed that she had opioids in her system at the time of her death.

The publication reports that there were therapeutic levels of Oxycodone in her blood, and that a second opioid was found, called Buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder. Traces of a third opioid was also found, called Quetiapine, an antipsychotic drug.

It is said that opioids can cause constipation, leading to bowel obstructions, and even death, which appears to have played a role in Presley’s case. As for the obstruction found, it was reportedly in the form of a strangulated small bowel, caused by adhesions that are said to have developed after a bariatric surgery (gastric bypass) Presley had years ago.

Meanwhile, the LA County Coroner said there was no drug paraphernalia or narcotics found at her home when medics arrived, and that her urine toxicology test at the hospital came back negative for drugs.

The publication also reported that Presley was taking weight loss medication before her death, and months prior, she had a cosmetic procedure done, for which she was prescribed the opioids. It is also stated that Presley had an alleged history of “overmedicating,” and would allegedly double doses, forgetting she took her meds the first time around.
