Man Mauled By Lions At Zoo After Allegedly Attempting To Steal Rare White Cub

Lions killed a man after he climbed into their enclosure and allegedly attempted to steal a cub at a zoo in Accra, Ghana.

Authorities said the man was mauled to death by the lions after he jumped over the security fence at the Accra Zoo on Monday afternoon. According to the Daily Mail, officials from the Forestry Commission said the lion, a lioness, and their two cubs were still secure in the enclosure. Before retrieving the man’s body, zoo officials relocated the lions into another secure hold enclosure so they could take action safely.

“Around 12:00 hours today, 28th August 2022, officials of the Accra Zoo, on a routine patrol, noticed a middle-aged man (an intruder) had jumped the security fences and entered the lion’s enclosure of the Zoo. The motive of the intruder is yet to be determined,” officials wrote in a statement.

Although many believed he hopped into the enclosure to take a cub, officers said they are still trying to determine a motive.

Officials said they visited the zoo to make sure the lions to make sure they didn’t escape the enclosure after the incident.

“The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission Hon. Benito Owusu Bio and John Allotey, respectively, visited the Zoo this afternoon to ensure all facilities remain secure.”

After the news went viral on Twitter, users expectedly took the lions’ side and said they had the right to protect their habitat and young.
