Lil Uzi Vert opened up about changing their pronouns and also identifying as gender nonconforming. As we previously reported, back in July Uzi changed their pronouns on Instagram to they/them.

Now in a new interview with the fashion magazine 032c the Philly rapper took the time to address the pronoun change for the first time. During the interview, Uzi was asked if they felt any reluctance to make the change. “No, I never hesitated,” the ‘Just Wanna Rock’ rapper said. “But I did take my time to learn as much as I could about this before I was able to proceed. Taking the time to figure out who you are is a big part of what it means to be alive. Once you figure out whether you’re here with it, there with it, or both, you’re not alone anymore. This community offers access to a certain kind of support that you might not have had [previously during] your entire life because you weren’t raised that way. I come from a household where it’s not okay to be ‘non’ anything.”

Lil Uzi Vert went on to deny that the changes was not an act of bravery. “Bravery has only a ten percent chance of living, I’m not brave at all. I just think a good product [is] a good product. Think about fashion. Gay and trans designers are some of the biggest talents out there, and gangster-a** guys wear their stuff without a thought. What you make is what matters, not how you identify.”

Uzi has always been different from all the other rappers we see but their has also been successful for a long time. Ever since they came out, Uzi has taken the streets by storm. The rapper took a break for awhile and came back with his latest hit song ‘Just Wanna Rock.’

Uzi gained significant popularity with their debut single “Money Longer” in 2016 and has since become one of the prominent figures in the hip-hop and trap music scenes.
