BET has responded to Lil Nas X after he expressed his frustration about not receiving any nominations at the upcoming award show later this month.

The statement reads, “We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a best new artist BET award in 2020 and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent on the show twice. Unfortunately this year, he was not nominated by BET’s voting academy which is comprised of an esteemed group of nearly 500 entertainment professionals in the fields of music, television, film, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations influencers, and creative arts.”
BET responds to Lil Nas X’s criticism:

The statement continues, “no one from BET serves as a member of the voting academy. At BET we are passionate advocates for the wonderful diversity that exists within our community. We are committed to using all of our platforms to provide visibility and inclusion for all of many intersections of the black community.”
As we previously reported, Lil Nas X was unhappy when he found out he didn’t receive any nominations at this years award show. “Thank you BET Awards. An outstanding zero nominations again. Black excellence, I try to be humble so bad but it’s really f**k you to a lot of you n***as.” he said.
Lil Nas X also continued his Twitter rant and shared that black gay people have to fight to be seen in this world. “Not even that, doesn’t even have to be me nominated. I just feel like black gay people have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”
One Twitter user wrote Lil Nas X to say maybe he wasn’t nominated because he’s more of a pop artist. The rapper responded and said, “no offense but you are literally of Caucasian persuasion and trying to school me on an award show I’ve watched my entire childhood + it’s not the hip hop awards + they have a pop category + ratio.”

Another Twitter user wrote Nas X and questioned what music has he put out and to not try and use gay as the problem. “Idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album. I feel like that should’ve helped a bit” Nas shared.
