It’s been a few weeks since the world lost Liam Payne, the beloved One Direction star, and the heartbreak and pain from his tragic death still lingers. Now, just as the dust starts to settle, investigators are rolling out new details that surrounding.
On November 7, a press release from Argentina’s public prosecutor put things into an unfortunate perspective for many as they made it clear: Liam Payne’s death is “not being ruled as a suicide.”
According to the official statement, the investigators have been diving deep into the circumstances of Liam’s final moments. “Although other medical background information from the victim’s clinical history must still be analyzed, the phenomenon of the lack of defense or self-preservation reflex in the fall, together with other relevant data from his consumption, allow us to conclude that Liam Payne was not fully conscious or was experiencing a state of noticeable decrease or loss of consciousness at the time of the fall,” the report explains.

Of course this is heavy. The findings suggest that Liam probably wasn’t aware of what was going down. “In the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing nor could he understand it,” they added, ruling out the possibility of a “conscious or voluntary act.”
As we previously reported, Liam, just 31, died after a fall from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16. Toxicology results showed he had a cocktail of substances in his system, including “pink cocaine”—a dangerous mix of methamphetamine, ketamine, and MDMA. He also had cocaine, benzodiazepine, and crack in his bloodstream.
In the wake of his death, the investigation has taken a sharper turn. On the same day as the new details were released, three individuals were charged with grave offenses including abandonment leading to death and the supply of narcotics.
The indictment is thick—180 pages long—and it’s a signal that authorities are taking this investigation seriously. Judge Laura Graciela Bruniard is pushing for the individuals to be deposed and arrested.
Liam’s body has since been flown back to the U.K. with his father, Geoff, by his side. The singer leaves behind not just a legacy of music but also a family—his parents, two older sisters, and his little boy, Bear, who is just 7 and will now grow up without his dad by his side. He shared Bear with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole, and one can only imagine the heartache felt by all who loved him.
