Legendary Television Host Regis Philbin Dies At 88

Socialites, it is with our deepest regret to inform you that Regis Philbin has died. According to PEOPLE magazine, the legendary television host died on July 24. He was 88-years old.

His family released a statement to PEOPLE Magazine saying,

“We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday,” the Saturday statement read.

”His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him – for his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about. We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss,” the Philbin family says.

A source tells TMZ that Regis died after suffering a heart attack at his home in Manhattan, New York. However, the news site has not confirmed those details with hos actual family members. It was noted that he’d been battling heart disease for a while now. Regis had an angioplasty done in the ’90s and triple bypass surgery in 2007. Up until last year, Regis had said he was feeling relatively healthy in retirement.

Still, the sad news of the beloved star’s passing comes as a shock to the entertainment world.

For years Regis has shown up on our screens starting from his big Hollywood break in the ’50s while working on “The Tonight Show.” His on-air presence stretched across the better part of a century, with stints on morning talk shows, live specials, game shows including the popular “Deal or No Deal.” The decorated host won multiple awards for his work, including Daytime Emmys.

He is survived by his daughters J.J., Joanna, and Amy from his two marriages.
