Lawyers For Gregory & Travis McMichael Claim It’s ‘Not About Race’

The lawyers who are representing the men charged with the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in February held a press conference on Friday morning to address the public.

WSBTVreports that Franklyn and Laura Hogue claim that this case is not about race despite what the public has believed.

As we reported, McMichael and his son Travis are in jail on felony murder charges for fatally shooting Arbery because they thought he was a burglary suspect.

McMichael’s lawyers said people are only believing what the media is releasing and that they have their own videos that prove otherwise.

“This case at first appears to contain some of the same elements that feed into the despicable and violent history of racism in our country, just based upon what little the public knows about this case up until now,” Franklyn Hogue said.

They are asking for the public to not rush to judgment.

Gov. Brian Kemp spoke to reporters previously and promised that state investigators would “find the truth.”

“Earlier this week, I watched the video depicting Mr. Arbery’s last moments alive,” Kemp said. “I can tell you it’s absolutely horrific, and Georgians deserve answers.”
