Looks like Whoopi Goldberg issued an apology for using an offensive word on today’s episode of The View. While speaking on the former president Donald Trump, the talk show host mentioned how his supporters feel he got “gypped” in the 2020 presidential election.

The View‘s official Twitter account posted an apology video from Goldberg shortly after the episode aired. “You know, when you’re a certain age, you use words that you know from when you’re a kid or you remember saying, and that’s what I did today and I shouldn’t have,” the actress explained. “I should have thought about it a little longer before I said it, but I didn’t, and I should have said ‘cheated’ and I used another word. And I’m really, really sorry.”

Many Twitter users weren’t aware that “gypped” was an offensive term but according to Merriam-Webster “gypped” is defined as being cheated, defrauded or swindled, and notes, regarding its etymology, that it is “probably short for gypsy.”

Now this isn’t the first time Whoopi had to issue an apology from being on The View. As we previously reported, Goldberg was suspended from the show over her holocaust comments. “The Holocaust isn’t about race. No, it’s not about race,” Goldberg, explained repeatedly.“It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.” Other “The View” co-hosts were quick to disagree with her statement. “Well, it’s about white supremacy. That’s what it’s about, political strategist Ana Navarro chimed in to say. “It’s about going after Jews and gypsies.”

“But these are two groups of white people,” replied Goldberg. “You’re missing the point. The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white because Black, white, Jews, Italians, everybody eats each other.”

Switching the topic back to “Maus,” she continued, “If you hear about ‘Maus,’ should you be worried — should your child say ‘Oh my God, I wonder if that’s me?’ No. That’s not what they’re going to say. They’re going to say, ‘I don’t want to be like that.”
