Law Roach Clarifies Recent Retirement Announcement: ‘What I’m Retiring From Is The Celebrity Styling Part Of It’

Celebrity stylist Law Roach left people stunned with the news of his retirement on Monday, but in a new interview with Vogue, the 44-year-old made it clear that he’s not entirely quitting the fashion business. In fact, it’s not fashion he’s quitting; it’s “the celebrity styling part of it,” he told the publication. Despite being one of the most sought-after stylists in Hollywood, Roach went on to recall how he’d recently felt like he was in a “bubble” where his clients’ needs were being prioritized over his health.

The “Legendary” star, who’s well-known for having worked with countless celebrities, including Megan Thee Stallion, Keke Palmer, Kerry Washington, Ariana Grande, and, of course, Zendaya, had apparently reached a point in his career where certain parts of the job no longer resonated with the person he’s evolving to become. “I’m not saying I’m retiring from fashion,” Roach assured.

“I love fashion. I love the businesses, and I love being creative. What I’m retiring from is the celebrity styling part of it: the being in service and at service of other people. That’s what I’m retiring from, yeah.” While the retirement post earlier this week may have been taken out of context by some who assumed Roach was leaving the business for good, he says he was actually doing it more for himself to find the strength in saying he can finally move on and do other things.

“What I plan on doing is other things. Like what I’m doing today with Boss,” Roach continued, referring to the runway show he had been booked to model the brand’s collection. Further down the line, the fashion guru would also welcome the opportunity to teach others how he’s become as successful as he has been over the years.

“I want to be more involved with people who look like me who want to figure out how to have the opportunity to do things that I’ve done, right?” he revealed. “I want that to be my legacy, a legacy that I really helped change people’s lives—and not just the celebrities’ by putting them in the best dress, you know?”

Roach’s retirement post was flooded with comments from stunned fans (and industry friends) telling him to rethink his decision of stepping away as some took down a walk down memory lane as they credit him for putting them in their favorite red carpet outfits over the years.

It also doesn’t seem as if Roach’s business relationship with Zendaya will be slowing down anytime soon, having told fans on Twitter that his partnership with the actress is very much still in full effect. Roach has been widely praised by Zendaya’s fans who revamped her image from an ordinary and innocent girl to a fashion icon in the making.

“She’s my little sister and it’s real love, not the fake industry love,” he tweeted. Some Twitter users had initially assumed Roach had quit fashion over a viral video of him seemingly looking puzzled as he and Zendaya headed to take their front-row seats at Louis Vuitton’s fashion show in Paris. However, as Zendaya takes to the last seat, Roach was left to sit behind her.
