LaVar Ball Calls Detroit Pistons ‘Raggedy As Hell’ After They Cut LiAngelo Ball 11 Days After Signing
LaVar Ball isn’t here for the Detroit Pistons organization officials as he calls them “raggedy as hell” after they cut his son LiAngelo Ball from the team just 11 days after signing him. On Monday morning (Dec. 14), Ball publicly reacted to the team waiving his 22-year-old middle son LiAngelo’s one-year, non-guaranteed contract.
Speaking with Bleacher Report AMA, the elder Ball says, “I definitely have thoughts on [Gelo’s release]. The people in Detroit are great. I love the fans, but the franchise over there is raggedy as hell. They don’t know a good player. I was giving them a lottery pick for free! Has the skills to play and the notoriety to bring everybody to the game. How do you throw that out the window? They’re gonna learn the hard way. My boys are gonna end up together playing somewhere. ‘Gelo can shoot the lights out. That was raggedy what they did. But hey, they’re gonna learn the hard way.”

Unlike his older brother Lonzo, who was No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, and younger brother LaMelo, who was drafted No. 3 this year, LiAngelo went undrafted in 2018, famously enrolling at UCLA in 2017, but never making it onto the court due to his suspension for shoplifting sunglasses during an international trip to China. Before returning to the U.S. to play in his father’s Junior Basketball Association, Gelo played in the Lithuanian Basketball League in 2018. In 2019, he underwent ankle surgery (per Jacob Hancock of Sporting News), then he signed a G-League contract with the Oklahoma City Blues as a practice player, but the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
