Las Vegas Sets Highest Single-Day COVID-19 Record After Reopening Casinos
Just two weeks after reopening their casinos, restaurants, and gyms at limited capacity, Las Vegas sets its highest single-day COVID-19 record for infections since the coronavirus pandemic began. Nevada as a whole follows suit.
The state itself increased its highest daily record to 379 new cases on Tuesday, jumping from 295 dated May 22; while Clark County identified 342 new cases, jumping from 242 cases. The county also reported its first death of a child on Monday. While the state of Nevada first reported more than 11,600 infections, they’ve stated at least 467 residents have died with at least 8,400 recoveries. In Clark County, more than 6,800 infected residents have recovered.

Nevada Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Shannon Litz stated, “The State had the expectation that as a result of reopening and an increase in testing, our positive cases were likely to increase. We continue to encourage all Nevadans to maintain good hand hygiene, wear a face covering in public and observe 6 feet of social distance with those who are not in your household.”
