The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has led to a violent protest in Los Angeles on Friday and Saturday, with one man being arrested for “attempted murder” on a police officer. Per Deadline, two arrests were made following a clash between protesters and police in Downtown Los Angeles on Friday evening, when LAPD officers were said to have been assaulted by fireworks, projectiles, and a blow torch at 5th Street and Main.

Michael Ortiz, 30, is accused of allegedly throwing a makeshift flame thrower at a cop, who was treated for burns, according to a Saturday press release, while Juliana Bernado, 23, attempted to steal one of the officer’s batons. A “less-lethal” bullet was fired at her before she was taken into custody, the New York Post continued.

Following the volatile fiasco, Chief Michel Moore said, “I condemn the violence against officers that occurred last night and into today. Individuals participating in such criminal activity are not exercising their 1st Amendment rights in protest of the Supreme Court decision, rather, they are acting as criminals. The Department will vigorously pursue prosecution of these individuals.”

It’s believed that most of the protests that have occurred since the shocking ruling of The Supreme Court overruling Roe w. Wade on Friday have been peaceful.
