Lamar Odom Credits Ketamine, An Anesthetic, For Keeping Him Sober
After surviving a near-fatal overdose in 2015, former NBA star Lamar Odom opens up about his sobriety and credits ketamine, an anesthetic, for keeping him sober.
While appearing on ‘Good Morning America,’ on Monday (May 17), Odom reveals that receiving small doses of the anesthetic over the past two years has played a critical role in his recovery. He says, “I went to rehab and did some other things, but ketamine came into my life at the right time. I’m feeling amazing. I’m alive, I’m sober, I’m happy.”

As mentioned, ketamine is an anesthetic and is typically used by medial personnel and veterinarians. In 2019, the FDA approved a nasal spray medication with the drug in it, which is used by adults battling treatment-resistant depression. Health officials have since discovered that small doses of the anesthetic can potentially be helpful to those struggling with “addictions, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), anxiety, suicidal feelings and other treatment-resistant mental health conditions.”
