Are You Here For It? Lady Gaga ‘In Early Talks’ To Join ‘Joker’ Sequel As Harley Quinn Alongside Joaquin Phoenix

Ever since her starring role in “A Star Is Born,” Lady Gaga has proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the film industry, with a new report claiming she is currently in talks to play Harley Quinn in the upcoming “Joker” sequel, titled “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The 2019 motion picture was a huge success for Warner Bros. Pictures, amassing a colossal $1.1 billion at the box office and two Oscars, including Best Actor for its lead star Joaquin Phoenix at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Now, it appears that producers of the follow-up flick are hoping to recreate the success by welcoming the idea of turning the sequel into a musical and having Lady Gaga on board the new project, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. While Joaquin will most likely reprise his iconic role, a deal is currently being worked out for the “Poker Face” chart-topper, who made her last major blockbuster appearance in the 2021 crime-drama “House of Gucci.”

Details concerning the film are being kept tightly under wraps, but it’s believed that Gaga would share prominent camera time with Joaquin as his on-screen on-again, off-again girlfriend, who he first meets at the Arkham Asylum where, as depicted in the classic DC Comics, Harley Quinn initially became Joker’s psychiatrist.

If Lady Gaga signs on for the film, her interpretation of the character does not affect Margot Robbie’s portrayal after playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad her landing her 2020 spin-off Birds of Prey, which was followed by 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Both Harley Quinns will co-exist in a separate DC Universe.

Interestingly enough, Todd Phillips, who directed 2019’s “Joker,” is returning for the second installment, having already shared close ties with Gaga when he worked as a producer on “A Star Is Born,” so the two already have some sort of working relationship.

It goes without saying that despite having sold an incredible 124 million records worldwide and becoming one of the biggest-selling music artists to date, Gaga is slowly but surely lending more of her time focusing on her acting career. Starring in the upcoming “Joker” sequel could cement her place as one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, with the potential of finally winning the Oscar she initially hoped to bag for her role in “A Star Is Born.”
