While La La Anthony sure has been enjoying her single life since splitting from Carmelo Anthony, it appears as if their son Kiyan isn’t exactly fond of the idea of his mom dating again. During her appearance on ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show,’ the TV host-turned-actress opened up on what it’s been like for her to be on the dating scene again, though it appears to be far from easy given Kiyan’s protective stance over his mother.
“He doesn’t like it,” Anthony told Hudson after being quizzed on how her son feels about her dating. “And I’m like, ‘So you just want your mom to be alone forever?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, kind of.’” She joked that when Kiyan wants to spend time with his friends, he has no problem leaving her in a heartbeat, but he “doesn’t want me to have anybody!’”
Anthony’s comments clearly resonated with Hudson, who, too, is a mother of 13-year-old Otunga Jr., and judging by her words, the ‘Spotlight’ singer has a similar problem in her household. Hudson chimed in by saying she couldn’t even get on the phone without her son interfering, much to the surprise of Anthony, who says she has the same problem with Kiyan. “I feel like it’s my dad in the house or something. I’m sneaking [around], texting…this is crazy!”
“Or he’s like, ‘Mom let me see your phone real quick,’ like for what? What do you need my phone for?”
The ‘Power’ star, who has made quite a name for herself on the small screen in recent years, filed for divorce from Carmelo back in 2021. The famous ex-couple met back in 2003 before welcoming Kiyan in 2007, followed by their wedding, which was held at Cipriani’s in New York.

Back in October, La La shed light on her marriage downfall, revealing that her relationship with Carmelo took a turn when he was traded from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks in 2011. She said that the trade affected the marriage as things started to become more complicated.
“It is really hard. That’s not the only reason things didn’t work out, but things got tough with New York, just constantly being under the spotlight and people watching every little thing.”
