Ousted Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving is apologizing yet again to the Jewish community following recent backlash, reiterating how he is NOT “anti-Jewish.” In his second apology, he acknowledges the difficulty his family is also dealing with.
Kyrie Irving Apologizes Again To The Jewish Community, And Also His Family: ‘I Don’t Have Hate In My Heart & I’m Not Anti-Jewish’
As we previously shared, Irving tweeted a link to the 2018 film called ‘Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America!’ The film, which followed the 2014 book, has been deemed “anti-Semitic,’ and with Irving promoting it, he’s faced serious backlash.
The NBA player has been suspended from at least 5 games and lost his lucrative partnership with Nike. He was also given a list of demands, stating all that he needed to do to be back in good graces.
After the first round of backlash, Irving acknowledged his tweet and took accountability. Then the suspensions and list of demands came rolling in, so he issued a full apology.
The backlash continued to follow him, and now he is issuing another apology to not only the Jewish community, but to his family and relatives that truly know his pure intentions and are witnessing him being stripped of his accomplishments.
On Saturday (November 19), the 7 time All-Star sat down for an exclusive interview with SNY and had this to say:
“I don’t have hate in my heart for the Jewish people, or anybody who identifies as a Jew. I’m not ‘Anti-Jewish,’ or any of that. And it’s been difficult to sit at home with my family, with them seeing all of this.”
He also said:
“I really want to focus on the hurt that I caused or the impact that I made within the Jewish community. Putting some type of threat, or assumed threat, on the Jewish community.
I just want to apologize deeply for all my actions throughout the time that it’s been since the post was first put up. I’ve had a lot of time to think. But my focus, initially, if I could do it over, would be to heal and repair a lot of my close relationships with my Jewish relatives, brothers and sisters.”
Meanwhile, Irving is due to return to the court today, putting on his Brooklyn Nets jersey to play against the Memphis Grizzlies. This after missing eight games over a nearly two-week span.
