The singers’ fans immediately came to her defense and criticized Queiro for his random question and found them to be sexist and believed he was body-shaming. Tory Lanez even chimed in and said, “You can’t trust a n*gga that don’t find Jill Scott attractive.” Singer K. Michelle added, “Jill Scott is literally one of the sexiest singers of my time. I hate dead brain jocks.”
Quiero has since deleted the offending tweets, later posting, “I tried to explain my tweet after realizing how poorly it was worded and conveyed. I didn’t grow up on Jill Scott so it was news to me that she was a sex symbol, and I just tweeted. Stupidly. It was best to just delete it & take my L.” Still, people weren’t here for Kyle’s reaponse so he followed up with an official apology to the beloved singer.
“First and foremost, I would like to [sic] apologize to Miss Jill Scott,” he began. “The topic of your beauty should not have been shared over social media for public discourse. There’s truly no excuses or explanations to be made. My comments were distasteful and unbecoming of a Black man to speak negatively of a Black woman under any circumstance.”
“Second, I would like to apologize to all of those who were also offended by my post. I’m aware of the layers of hurt I peeled back with my words. I had no intention to make people feel less than, but that’s simply not good enough. Intention doesn’t equate to impact. I am aware of how much more important one’s impact is than their intention. Knowing this, I still offended a large number of people and for that, I am deeply sorry.”
