Kodak Black’s Attorney Claims Rapper’s Oxycodone Pills In Florida Arrest Were Medically Prescribed

Kodak Black appears to have a good reason why cops reportedly found 31 oxycodone pills in his vehicle before his arrest in Florida on Friday. The rapper, who has since been released on a $75,000 bond, is said to have been taking the opiate painkiller since February when he was involved in a LA brawl that led him to get shot, his lawyer Bradford Cohen told TMZ.

Bradford continued telling the publication that the oxycodone pills were prescribed by a doctor so that Kodak could heal from his injury without the accompanying pain. Furthermore, the medication is also said to have helped the 25-year-old with another injury stemming from an alleged attack he endured by Kentucky federal prison guards after his 2019 incarceration.

Bradford contends that Kodak has been dealing with ongoing pain from both incidents and has relied on oxycodone pills to ease the agony. His attorney has already provided medical documents to prove that law enforcement can not charge him for being in possession of pills that were prescribed by a doctor.

As fans will recall, Kodak was arrested on Saturday on drug charges after being pulled over for having illegal window tinting. Per CNN, his windows were relatively darker than the legal limit, with officers later discovering that his driving license and registration had also expired.

It was during the vehicle search that cops found nearly $75k in cash and 31 oxycodone meds, which is a narcotic drug that can often become very addicting. Still, it’s one of the most common treatments to take when dealing with severe or chronic pain.

According to Rolling Stone, a bond had been negotiated on Saturday morning, and things clearly went successful for the rap star, whose real name is Bill Bahan Kapri, seeing that he was released just hours later. Police also claimed when they approached Kodak’s vehicle, there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from his direction.

Following his client’s release, Bradford tweeted, “Never Judge (sic) a case based on an arrest. There are always additional facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case. We will get him a bond today and move forward with resolving the matter quickly.”

Of course, this is not Kodak’s first run-in with law enforcement, having previously been sentenced to prison for weapons possession in 2019, before he was pardoned by former President Donald J. Trump two years later.

In a statement from White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany at the time, she described the “No Flockin” hitmaker as “a prominent artist and community leader.”
