The lawsuit states Island Express is solely responsible for the tragic death of Mauser and cited negligence as the company’s helicopter crashed and killed the basketball coach and several others. Mauser was an employee of the gym at the time of her death and Sports Academy footed a $127,000 bill in funeral costs and death benefits to her family.

Sports Academy is asking for the expenses to be reimbursed from the helicopter company in addition to any workers’ comp payments that may happen in the future.

As previously reported by TMZ, the NTSB concluded that the crash occurred due to the company’s “inadequate review and oversight of its safety management process. Mauser, Kobe Bryant, Gianna, and six other victims were killed in January 2020.

Island Express Co. has yet to comment on the lawsuit and the first year anniversary of the deadly crash is coming up in several weeks.
