Two-time NBA champion Mychal Thompson, 71, is giving his son, NBA star Klay Thompson, 35, and his rapper girlfriend Megan Thee Stallion, 30, his blessing on marriage as he again praises her and her cooking skills.

In July 2025, the couple first sparked dating rumors when the Houston rapper posted photos with Thompson ducked off in the background. As she sat on the ledge of a pool/hot tub, the Dallas Mavericks guard was tucked away in the corner of her photo, soaking up the sun on a pool chair.
Fans quickly speculated that the two were secretly seeing each other. However, neither immediately confirmed the viral rumors. Finally, about three days later, Thompson confirmed the relationship with the Megan, born Megan Pete. He posted full-on PDA photos of the two on his Instagram.
Days later, at Megan Thee Stallion’s Pete & Thomas Foundation’s Gala — which she launched in honor of her late parents Joseph Pete III and Holly Thomas — the couple made their carpet debut. While speaking with PEOPLE, the “Hot Girl Summer” rapper said she and Thompson had a “meet-cute” ad that it was “like a f**king movie,” when they first met.

Since debuting their romance in July 2025, the couple has been spotted all over each other’s social media pages and at Thompson’s NBA games. The couple even spent Thanksgiving with his parents, Mychal Thompson and Julie Thompson.
Ahead of the holiday, Mychal confirmed that Megan would be cooking the turkey for their family’s dinner gathering. And sure enough, when Turkey Day came on November 27, 2025, Megan shared her process of cooking Thanksgiving dinner for her man and his family. By the end of the clip, Mychal had given his son’s girlfriend the stamp of approval. She had successfully won over his father and mother.

Fast forward to Friday (January 30), when Mychal Thompson again praised his son Klay Thompson’s girlfriend Megan Thee Stallion and her cooking skills. While speaking with paparazzi outside an airport, he salivated over Megan’s cooking and how great of a daughter-in-law she would.
While sharing his thoughts on Megan, Mychal said:
“She’s a very nice lady. She can cook, boy. Oh, man. The other night she made some baked beans. Barbecue baked beans. Best I’ve ever had in my life. She made a brisket the other night, with some special sauce that she cooked up. She could open up a cooking school. She could be a chef. She is one of the best cooks… Nobody could ever cook as good as my mother, ‘cause that’s how mothers are, right? But, man, Megan is a chef. She’s talented.”
When asked if fans could expect Megan and Klay to marry, Mychal said, “I don’t know. That’s up to them. You gotta ask them that.” When asked if she’d make a great daughter-in-law, he confirmed, “Oh yeah, man. She’s a really nice girl. She really is. Very smart. Very smart lady.”
Mychal continued to show love for his son and his girlfriend. When asked if he was loving their relationship, he declared, “Oh yeah, definitely.”
The following day, on Saturday (January 31), Megan Thee Stallion shared another one of her cute voiceover videos of her and her man Klay Thompson. In the latest clip, she revealed she made him and his father some dinner — the same meal Mychal previously spoke on.
