Kim Zolciak & husband Kroy Biermann are back in the headlines… this time for allegedly skipping out on paying taxes.
According to an exclusive report by TMZ, the reality star has reportedly been hit with a federal tax lien accusing them of owing a 7-figure debt in back taxes.
Legal docs obtained by the news site show that the IRS filed a federal tax lien against the duo on April 11. The couple owes a total of $1.1M to the IRS for unpaid taxes, interest, as well as penalties from 2013, 2017, and even 2018. It was also noted that they also owe the state of Georgia $15K for unpaid taxes for 2018.
This latest news comes just months after the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star spoke out and denied reports she was having financial troubles. As we previously reported back in February, reports claimed that her famous Atlanta mansion which has been featured in the Bravo show had been up for foreclosure. Us Weekly confirmed in February that her five-bedroom pad was in foreclosure.
“The debt secured by said Security Deed has been and is hereby declared due because of, among other possible events of default, failure to pay the indebtedness as and when due and in the manner provided in the Note and Security Deed,” read court documents obtained by Us on February 17. “The debt remaining in default, this sale will be made for the purpose of paying the same and all expenses of this sale, as provided in Security Deed and by law, including attorney’s fees.”
Despite that, her daughter spoke with TMZ to set the record straight on those reports. “Don’t believe everything you hear,” Ariana, 21, told the outlet. “Everything is still there. We all live there.” Brielle, 25, also claimed that there is a big “misunderstanding” about the news. “[We have] gone through this already in November,” she told the outlet.
While Kim didn’t address those rumors, a source close to the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum previously told PEOPLE the star was unconcerned with the news. “She is telling everyone this is a misunderstanding and it’s being sorted out,” the source says, adding, “She’s not moving.”
Despite that, as the news continued to swirl, she did, however, set the record straight about foreclosure rumors back in November.
“OK you guys, my house has not sold for $257,000,” she said in the video captured by the Instagram account @BravoHousewives (via People).” If you guys think I would let my home that we’ve put millions and millions of dollars into go for $257,000, you’re an idiot, okay? For real.”
Zolciak-Biermann went on to say, “So, what are you gonna do, haters, when I’m here for Christmas, and I’m here for my birthday in May, and I’m here for all these amazing dates? I’m here until I f***ing want to move until I decide I don’t want to live here anymore. So, enjoy the view haters. You’re going to be seeing it for quite some time.”
