Once again, Kim Kardashian is using her platform to bring attention to important stories.
This morning the reality star took to Instagram to ask the Federal Bureau of Prisons to grant the father of Texas school shooting victim Eliahana ‘Ellie’ Cruz Torres, temporary release so he could attend her funeral. Kim said in a message: “Her family are desperately hoping that her father, who is incarcerated for a non violent drug offense, be granted temporary release so that he can attend her funeral. So far their requests have been denied. I ask the @officialFBOP to grant Eli Torres temporary release so that he can say his last goodbye to his baby girl. Every parent deserves that right.”
The father Eli Torres is serving a 25-year sentence for drug trafficking in Kentucky. He has been given the option of watching a live stream of the funeral service but has said he would rather be there in person to say his final goodbyes to his sweet daughter. While speaking with TheHoustonChronicle, Torres said he regrets the decisions he’s made which cost him more than just his freedom: “I could have prevented this from happening, somehow, some way, as a father. … I could have stopped it somehow. Protected her.”
So far their requests have been denied. I ask the @officialFBOP to grant Eli Torres temporary release so that he can say his last goodbye to his baby girl. Every parent deserves that right.

The US government previously announced a federal investigation into the horrific incident. This comes as anger mounted over why armed officers waited more than one hour in the hall outside the classroom where the gunman students and staff: “The goal of the review is to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and responses that day, and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events,” DOJ spokesperson Anthony Coley said.
According to the latest updates on that, the Texas Department of Public Safety said a local police chief had stopped cooperating.
