Dang! On the heels of losing her $162,000 child support bid, the estranged wife of ‘The Bodyguard‘ star Kevin Costner is also being forced to pay $14,000+ in his attorney’s fees.
Things first began back in June when the Oscar Award-winner’s estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, 49 was initially asking for a quarter of a million dollars in monthly child support for their three children: Grace, 13, Hayes, 14, and Cayden, 16.
Baumgartner — who filed for divorce in May after 18 years of marriage and cited “irreconcilable differences” — said that the $250,000 ask was actually “less than the amount needed to maintain the children in their accustomed lifestyle.” Meanwhile, the 68-year-old actor said his ex could manage with $52,000 a month.
In July, a California Superior Court judge granted Baumgartner to receive more than $129,000 a month in child support. The judge also denied Costner’s request to fully settle his child support issues before the ex-couple’s November 27 trial date; which will determine if the prenuptial agreement they signed back in 2004 is still valid. Both parties have filed for joint custody of their three kids.

Nearly two months later, Baumgartner saw another reduction in her child support after Costner continuously alleged that his ex’s desire for more money was driven by her desire for plastic surgery and other expenses unrelated to their three children. He’d also alleged that his ex was getting $20,000 in cash from her new boyfriend; which she denied. Subsequently, last week, a judge dropped the $130,000 payout to $63,000.
Upon having her child support dropped again, PEOPLE claimed that while appearing in court last week, Baumgartner, who is now living in a rental that costs $40,000 per month after being kicked from her marital home, testified that she is considering going back to school for a college degree. She said, in order to help support herself in the future, “I will look into the steps I need to take and any schooling I need to do, and I will enter the workforce.”
On the heels of this, it’s also reported that from a recent court hearing, Baumgartner was ordered to pay her ex’s attorney’s fees. According to TMZ, Costner’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, asked Baumgartner and her legal team last month if they understood the 2004 premarital agreement she signed. Apparently, it was important to ask since Costner’s estranged wife has shown signs that she’s going to challenge the prenup.
The publication claims Baumgartner and her lawyers claimed they didn’t understand what “understand” meant, and from all of the back and forth between lawyers, Costner’s attorney’s fees amounted to $14,237.50, which a judge has just ordered his ex to pay. Additionally, if Baumgartner does choose to challenge the prenup and loses, she’ll have to pay all of her ex’s attorney’s fees incurred from that battle.
