Dang! Somebody queue up Blu Cantrell‘s “Hit ‘Em Up Style!,” because ‘The Bodyguard‘ star Kevin Costner, 68, is being hit up for nearly $250,000 a month in child support by his 49-year-old estranged wife Christine Baumgartner, and mother to three of his kids.
Now, the pair first tied the knot back in September 2004. During their marriage, they welcomed three children: Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13. Costner also fathered four older children from previous relationships: Annie, Lily, Joe and Liam.
On May 2, 2023, a rep for the actor, who worked opposite Whitney Houston in the classic 1992 film ‘The Bodyguard,’ confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple was breaking up. After 18 years of marriage, Costner’s wife had ended up filing for divorce. In her documents filed, she listed their date of separation as April 11, and cited the usual, “irreconcilable differences.”
A source later claimed that Costner “didn’t want or seek” a divorce,” and if he “could change the situation he would.” A week later, a family source said the filing “was an unpleasant surprise,” but Costner “wasn’t shocked” by it. They added, “This is not what he wanted. He knew that Christine was unhappy, though. During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her.”
Left with no choice, Costner ended up filing a response to his wife’s divorce; and in his paperwork, he requested for joint custody of their children, and also listed “irreconcilable differences,” as a cause for their break up. Additionally, he listed that there was a prenuptial agreement in place, in regards to spousal support, legal fees and properties.
There was also a mention of “separate property,” which Costner’s legal team said included: “Miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects; earnings and accumulations of Respondent before marriage, during marriage, and from and after the date of separation; [and] there are additional separate property assets and obligations of each party as mandated by the parties’ Premarital Agreement.”
They added, “Pursuant to the terms in Paragraph 9.A. of the parties’ Premarital Agreement, Petitioner to vacate Respondent’s separate property residences.”
Since his estranged wife filed for divorce, Costner is now being hit up for that cash he’s been racking up while leaving his family at home. According to new reports, his estranged wife is asking for $248,000 a month in child support, as a “total for all three children.” As for spousal support, it is noted in the wife’s paperwork that there is no request for it.
In her filing, she also noted that the $248K figure is “less than the amount needed to maintain the children in their accustomed lifestyle.” She is also requesting that her actor husband pay 100% of their children’s private school tuition, extracurricular activities, sports, and healthcare expenses.
As Costner’s being hit up for all these thousands, it is reported that in 2022, his income has been listed in the documents at $19,517,0641. The family’s expenses, not including taxes, were listed at $6,645,285. And the net income for the family, after all expenses and taxes, was listed at $7,595,520.
Reportedly, a few of these expenses include regular travel to the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Aspen. It also includes regular entertaining of guests, which requires caterers or chefs. Plus, there are expenses with the upkeep of the couple’s handful of large properties, with costs of about $2 million a year.
