Kentucky Town Elects French Bulldog Wilbur Beast As Its Mayor With Record Amount Of Votes

In the small Kentucky town of Rabbit Hash, officials have elected a french bulldog named Wilbur Beast as its mayor, noting he won with a record amount of votes ever tallied:  13,143.

It’s noted that the small town has strange tradition in electing canine candidates and 6-month-old Wilbur is their latest mayoral mutt. Amy Noland, Wilbur’s human, says, “Rabbit Hash, Kentucky has never had an actual person or human as a mayor. There was a man named Don Claire who thought it would be a great idea to elect some type of animal — not necessarily a canine — as mayor of town, as a fundraising event for the historical society. Although it’s not political at all, it always coincides with the presidential election.”

Noland adds that there have been five dog mayors of Rabbit Hash since the first pup, Goofy. The last was a pit bull named Brynn, who reigned from 2016 to 2020. Including herself, Noland says the small town of less than 500 residents is a thriving community of dog lovers. Noland, who adopted Wilbur four months ago, also fosters kittens and cats and other pups into her home.
