While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Rowland shared her admiration for JAY-Z. She also expressed her pride in his courageous stance, stating that his words resonated strongly with her. She said, “Shawn Carter is one of the greatest men I know, and his words ring so loud to me.” She went on to say that she “couldn’t be more proud” of the 54-year-old business mogul, adding, “I’m just really happy for a lot of things that he said. I think that he made a lot of artists feel very seen and very heard in those minutes that he took on stage.” Rowland went on to note,
that the “Empire State of Mind” rapper said, “It’s no disrespect,” before she went on to pay tribute to her former bandmate.

“I feel like she is an icon,” Rowland said of Beyoncé, 42, who was up for nine awards at Sunday’s show and added four wins to her big collection.

“She is innovative, her thoughts are big and bright and she just jumps for them and does it. I think that her albums are a reflection of that, and it should be really celebrated in that way,” Rowland said of Beyoncé.

More On Jay-Z’s Comments:

While accepting his honorary award, Jay Z said, “First of all, thanks to Dr. Dre … all the doors that you opened,” he said. “Honored to accept it.” He later thanked the Black Music Collective and noted, “Hopefully, I’m adding to what you guys are doing out here. We want ya’ll to get it right. We love ya’ll. At least get it close to right. And obviously, it’s subjective because it’s music. And it’s opinion-based,” he continued.

During last year’s Grammys, Beyoncé made awards show history by winning a record 32 awards. Jay-Z who was standing next to their daughter Blue Ivy on stage went on to note during his speech:

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has the most Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: The most Grammys. Never won album of the year. That doesn’t work. Some of you gonna go home and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category,” he said, getting an audible reaction from the audience.

“When I get nervous I tell the truth,” he added. “But outside of that, we got to keep showing up,” he continued. “Keep showing up until they give you all those accolades you feel you deserve. Until they call you chairman. Until they call you a genius. Until they call you the greatest of all time.”
