Kelly Rowland Addresses Destiny’s Child Reunion Claims: ‘We Wouldn’t Toy With It, But I Do Think You Would Deserve A Surprise’

There’s been a heap of rumors concerning a possible Destiny’s Child reunion being in the works, and Kelly Rowland is the latest band member of the girl band to address the claims, saying, “we wouldn’t toy with it, but I do think you would deserve a surprise.” While Kelly and fellow group members Beyonce and Michelle Williams have not released an album since 2004’s Destiny Fulfilled, the trio has reunited on a handful of occasions, most notably for the 2013 Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2018, when Beyonce headlined Coachella for two weekends.

And while the DC3 girls are still in close contact and consider each other the best of friends, there previously hadn’t been any talks about working on a sixth studio album together. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, however, the Can’t Nobody singer decided to weigh in on the chances of people getting to see Bey and Michelle join her for another reunion, whether that’s in the form of another album or a potential tour.

“I do think that… you would deserve a surprise,” Kelly shared. “I feel like everything is just so planned so we see it before it happens and we see the process right after it happens. It’s just a lot, like, we deserve spontaneity, we desire to be surprised and I would hope Destiny’s Child would be a pleasant surprise.” This was the second interview in the last month that Kelly had been asked about the possibility of reuniting with her band members for what would arguably be one of the biggest comebacks in music.

Last month, when the 41-year-old was quizzed with the same question, she answered, insisting that she wouldn’t be opposed to working with her longtime friends again before stressing that the timing had to be suitable for the project to prevail. “As naturally as we talk about so many other things, when the time is right, it will naturally come up in conversation somehow,” she told the New York Post.

“We have fun together when we do decide to work with each other in that capacity. I don’t think either of us is opposed to it. It’s just, what’s the right opportunity? But I will say we haven’t had an official album out together in 17 years and for the questions to be asked now is really kind of awesome.”

Since the group’s disbandment in 2005, after wrapping up the Destiny Fulfilled World Tour in September of that year, Kelly focused her attention on her solo career after finding worldwide success with her smash hit Dilemma with rapper Nelly in 2002. She released her sophomore, Ms. Kelly, in June 2007, followed by her third studio album, Here I Am, in July 2011.

Her last project came with 2013’s Talk A Good Game, which included the singles Ice, Kisses Down Low, and the ever-so-emotional ballad Dirty Laundry.
