Kelly Rowland Continues To Defend Chris Brown After AMAs Fiasco: ‘We All Need To Be Forgiven’

If there’s one thing Kelly Rowland is going to do, it’s sticking up for what she believes in. The “Red Wine” singer made headlines on Sunday when she accepted Chris Brown’s award for Best Male R&B Artist at the “American Music Awards,” the same awards ceremony that had snubbed him days prior from performing his Michael Jackson tribute alongside Ciara. Kelly appeared to have checked a few crowd members who seemingly booed following Chris’ win — and now the Destiny’s Child star says that people deserve to be forgiven.

A TMZ videographer caught up with the 41-year-old in West Hollywood on Monday, where she was asked about the now-viral moment and whether she was saddened by the crowd’s reaction upon hearing Chris had won the award. “You know, I believe that grace is very real, and before we point fingers at anybody, we should realize how grateful we are for every moment that we get.”

Kelly looked directly into the camera as she passionately expressed the importance of remembering that people are human, implying that nobody is perfect and bound to make mistakes along the way. The videographer then followed up by asking the mother-of-two whether it was time for people to “forgive” Chris for his past actions, leading Kelly to conclude by saying, “We all need to be forgiven for anything we could be doing […] We all come up short in some sort of way. And grace is real. We are humans.”

One day after the ceremony, a statement was given to Entertainment Tonight by Dick Clark Productions, who said that the decision to have Chris’ tribute canceled wasn’t the singer’s fault — producers had simply changed their set of live shows for the night, despite the fact that Breezy and Ciara had already been rehearsing in the lead-up to the show.

“Live shows change all the time, it’s the nature of this business; unfortunately, this element of the AMAs didn’t come together as we couldn’t align on the performance, to no fault of Chris Brown,” the statement read.

Ciara also weighed in on the situation by refraining from mentioning any of the drama and simply focusing on how “fun” it was in getting to collaborate with Chris again, whom she had worked with on several occasions throughout her career. “MJ thank you for the inspiration you’ve given us all! Thriller 40th Anniversary,” she wrote. “@ChrisBrownOfficial you’re a rare breed of this generation. Always fun to rock with you 💃🏽.”
