“This slap on the wrist is an absolute miscarriage of justice,” District Attorney Todd Spitzer said following the sentencing. “This man nearly bled to death in front of the emergency room doors after being stabbed so violently over and over that his skull was fractured.”

“We believe the complete disregard for human life over a dispute over trashcans is so egregious it warranted prison time,” he added.

The victim, 60-year-old Ray Winsor had confronted Jabbar over his alleged failure to remove his trashcans from their share driveway which pushed Jabbar to stab him in the back of his head.

His sentence has stayed until January 7 while probation officials decide whether he will serve his time in incarceration or home confinement.
