Kanye West is set to acquire Parler, the social media app that credits itself for being a “free speech platform.” The “Stronger” rapper found himself in a lot of controversies following anti-Semitic remarks he made just over a week ago, which resulted in him being locked out of his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

In an official statement from Parler, the company says with Ye becoming the new owner, the acquisition will help create an “uncancelable ecosystem.” Parlement Technologies CEO George Farmer believes that the deal will “change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech. Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again.”

West, too, has confirmed his plans to purchase Parler in a separate statement, where he added, “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves.” Parler had previously been removed from Google and Apple’s app stores after the platform was accused of helping rioters coordinate an attack on the Capitol building in January 2021.

Conspiracy theorists were said to have used the app to hatch out their plan to storm the Capitol building, which later led Google and Apple to remove the platform from its stores altogether. That same month, Amazon appeared to have followed suit when Parler was stripped from its web hosting service.

Fortunately, the company was able to turn things over after stressing they would regulate user comments closely moving forward, with its website taking just under a month before it was back online by February 2021. So, it’s fair to say that even Parler has faced a lot of heat for running a platform that prides itself in “free speech.”

Farmer concluded his statement, continuing, “Once again, Ye proves that he is one step ahead of the legacy media narrative. Parlement will be honored to help him achieve his goals.”

West made headlines again over the weekend as his “Drink Champs” interview aired on Revolt, where he outrageously alluded to the idea that the late George Floyd’s death was caused by fentanyl — an allegation which the deceased’s family is planning to take legal action against.

“They hit him with the fentanyl, if you look the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that,” West said during the controversial interview.

Civil rights lawyer Lee Merritt, who legally represented Floyd’s loved ones, took to Twitter on Sunday to write, “While one cannot defame the dead, the family of #GeorgeFloyd is considering suit for Kanye’s false statements about the manner of his death.”

“Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl, not the brutality established criminally and civilly undermines and diminishes the Floyd family’s fight.”
