Kanye West Canceled? Def Jam Reportedly Severs Ties With Ye & G.O.O.D. Music; Talent Agency CAA & Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Part Ways Too

Ye’s Adidas partnership is also under review after his anti-Semitic and George Floyd comments he made online and during his interview with Revolt TV’s ‘Drink Champs.’

Early Monday (October 24), it was reported that Depp’s lawyer, Camille Vasquez is no longer representing Ye. Earlier this month, it was reported that the two were working together on Ye’s business deals and contracts.

Vasquez, who helped Depp earlier this year in his bombshell case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, specializes in litigation and arbitration. However, she won’t be doing any of the above for Ye any more.

Additionally, on Monday it was also learned that earlier this month Hollywood talent agency CAA (Creative Artists Agency) also cut ties with Ye. According to The Los Angeles Times, “a person with knowledge of the situation, who was not authorized to speak publicly,” claimed CAA ended its relationship with Ye.

Hours later, it is now being reported that Def Jam has severed its ties with Ye and his label G.O.O.D. Music. According to The New York Times, a source at Def Jam claims G.O.O.D. Music is no longer affiliated with the major label.

They also say that Ye’s contract as an artist expired back in 2021 after the release of his album ‘Donda.’ However, it is unclear if Ye and Def Jam were expected to extend their partnership prior to his inflammatory comments.

Now, Ye first partnered with Def Jam, back in 2003 when he dropped his debut single “Through the Wire,” via the major label’s Roc-A-Fella imprint. Since then, every last one of his projects, minus ‘Donda 2,’ was distributed through Def Jam.

In 2004, Ye would go on to launch G.O.O.D. Music, and then in 2011, he and his label signed a contract with The Island Def Jam Music Group, now named Def Jam via Universal Music Group.

In addition to not knowing if Ye was due to extend his artist contract with Def Jam, it is also unclear when the major label explicitly ended their relationship with G.O.O.D Music.

Along with all of the aforementioned brands and companies (Vogue, Balenciaga, etc.), a documentary about Ye has also been axed. It was reported that MRC studio executives announced they were scrapping a finished doc about the rapper-turned-entrepreneur.
