On Friday (August 9), Kamala Harris hosted a campaign rally in Phoenix, Arizona where she was interrupted by pro-Palestine protestors. During Harris’ event, a group of demonstrators repeatedly shouted out, “Free, free Palestine.” This is the second time this week that she has been interrupted by demonstrators distraught by the war in Gaza.

On Wednesday (August 7), VP Harris was interrupted by Gaza protestors at a rally in Detroit, Michigan. There, the demonstrators repeatedly shouted, “Kamala, Kamala you can’t hide. We won’t vote for genocide.” At that rally, Harris fired back, “You know what, if you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.”

On Thursday (August 8), Phil Gordon, the Vice President’s national security adviser said she does not support an arms embargo on Israel, which is what some protestors have called for. Taking to his account on X, he wrote, “@VP has been clear: she will always ensure Israel is able to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups. She does not support an arms embargo on Israel. She will continue to work to protect civilians in Gaza and to uphold international humanitarian law.”

At her Arizona campaign rally, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the pro-Palestinian protestors and agreed that “now is the time” for a ceasefire deal to end Palestine’s conflict with Israel. VP Harris said, “Hold on. Here’s the thing: we are all in here together. I’m told an extraordinary number of folks who are here together because we love our country. We’re here to fight for our democracy, which includes respecting the voices that I think we are hearing from.”

She continued, “I have been clear. Now is the time to get a cease-fire deal and get the hostage deal done. Now is the time. And the president and I are working around the clock every day to get that cease-fire deal done and bring the hostages home. So, I respect your voices, but we are here to now talk about this race in 2024.”

VP Harris has been aligned with President Joe Biden‘s views and ironclad support vow for Israel. She has been highlighting that the way in which Israel attacks Hamas matters and needs to be stopped and more protection needs to be given to Gaza civilians. After a meeting with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month, she shared, “I’ve said it many times, but it bears repeating: Israel has a right to defend itself, but how it does so matters.”
