While hosting her first campaign rally since President Joe Biden exited the 2024 race and endorsed her to be the Democratic party’s nominee (a title she has not quite yet won), Kamala Harris spoke on abortion among many other subjects.
With voters filing gymnasium bleachers at West Allis Central High School, located near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, VP Kamala Harris vowed to put a stop to Donald Trump’s “extreme abortion bans” and help “restore reproductive freedoms.”

She said, “And now Wisconsin the baton is in our hands. We — who believe in the sacred freedom to vote — will make sure every American has the ability to cast their ballot and have it counted. We — who believe that every person in our nation who should have the freedom to live safe from the terror of gun violence — will finally pass red flag laws, universal background checks, and an assault weapons ban.”
Harris continued, “And we — who believe in reproductive freedom — will stop Donald Trump’s extreme abortion bans because we trust women to make decisions about their own body and not have their government tell them what to do. And when Congress passes a law to restore reproductive freedoms, as President of the United States, I will sign it into law.”
According to NBC News, President Biden hadn’t really used the word “abortion” when addressing reproductive rights in his most recent State of the Union address. However, the outlet notes that he is pro-abortion rights and has previously said that his Catholic faith makes him uncomfortable with abortion.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump supports a national ban on abortion, claiming the states should have the final say on their abortion policies. Joining him, his recently selected running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, previously suggested in a 2022 debate that he would support the nationwide ban as well and leave it to the states to decide.
