Kamala Harris Named As Joe Biden’s VP Pick
For weeks we’ve been trying to figure out who Joe Biden would pick to be his running mate. Last month, Biden said he was considering four Black women, but didn’t reveal the names. However, at the time, people rumored to be considered for Biden’s vice-presidential pick included Sen. Kamala Harris of California, Rep. Val Demings of Florida, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, former Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice and Rep. Karen Bass of California.

After weeks of waiting, Biden has finally chosen someone to take on the presidential race with him, and that person is California Sen. Kamala Harris. In a Tuesday tweet, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee described Ms. Harris as “one of the country’s finest public servants” while announcing the big news.
“Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau,” he wrote, referring to his late son, Beau Biden, who worked with Ms. Harris while serving as Delaware’s attorney general. “I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”
Harris also released a statement via Twitter:
“@JoeBiden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals. I’m honored to join him as our party’s nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief.”
Former President Barack Obama, who also endorsed Biden celebrated Harris becoming his running mate. He said on Twitter this afternoon:
“I’ve known Senator @KamalaHarris for a long time. She is more than prepared for the job. She’s spent her career defending our Constitution and fighting for folks who need a fair shake. This is a good day for our country. Now let’s go win this thing.”
