As social media users continue to compare chart-topping AI R&B artist Xania Monet to K. Michelle, the “Can’t Raise A Man” singer is joining the long list of musicians slamming the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in music as she reveals she is planning to sue the folks behind an unnamed AI artist allegedly using her “tones and voice.”
During a recent livestream, K. Michelle slammed AI in music and also revealed that she is planning to sue an AI artist allegedly using her “tones and voice.” The reveal arrives as social media has been comparing chart-topping AI R&B artist Xania Monet to her. In her live, K. Michelle responded to a social user claiming they wanted to write for her. She replied:
“You know what? I don’t need nobody writing me no songs right now. I got so much built up tension. AI people using my tones, and my voice, and all of that. And now I gotta go find a lawyer. All types of stuff going on.
Last thing I really need is somebody to write me a song. Because once I sit down—this is almost through. Once I sit down, oh my God. The amount of songs I’m going to write. Not just write for me, write for your favorites, and sell. The amount of records… I’m going to make 20 records a week. Okay?”
K. Michelle continued to slam AI in music by reposting a critical post on X shared by Jermaine Dupri. The tweet read:
“So, let me get this right. Years ago, the industry found out that Milli Vanilli weren’t really the voices on their Grammy winning record and they were stripped of their Grammy. But, now we’re getting ready to accept people who can’t even sing, creating songs for a fake person? How is this any different than Milli Vanilli?”
The “V.S.O.P” singer wrote over the screenshot and said, “Then, they are using o[u]r voices and mixing them with other artist[s].”
As mentioned, K. Michelle’s lawyering up revelation arrives after social media users claimed Xania Monet sounds a lot like her. One person on X wrote, “Xania Monet literally stole K. Michelle’s 2014 to 2014 sound and voice. She has every right to sue.”
Another user wrote, “Xania Monet definitely sounds like hints of K. Michelle and Tiffany Evans with the runs, belting, and chest voice. I also hear Ariana Grande in the head voice. And Ciara, in the speaking voice.” A third added, “That Al singer Xania sound like a Bey[once] & K. Michelle mix. Why the labels created an Al singer with a big voice but don’t sign big voices.”
As we previously shared, AI artist Xania Monet is a creation of Telisha “Nikki” Jones. She is a 31-year-old Mississippi native and songwriter. While Jones admits she cannot sing, she uses 100% of her own lyrics to power her AI artist, which she brings to life with the AI platform Suno.
