The remake of The Color Purple is out and now K. Michelle is giving her honest review.
As many are aware, “The Color Purple” is a movie based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker. It tells the story of Celie, a young African-American woman in the early 20th century, who faces adversity and oppression in her life. The movie explores themes of race, gender, love, and self-discovery as Celie navigates through her difficult journey towards empowerment and finding her own voice.
The remake of the old hit classic stars Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, Ciara, and Jon Batiste (among others). Fans rushed to see it on Christmas Day including singer K. Michelle. The former reality star took to social media to share her reaction to the highly anticipated film. While she said it was “phenomenal” she also admitted that it “triggered her.” She said in an Instagram Story post, “Color Purple was so soooooooo phenomenal. It triggered the hell out of me though,” K. Michelle began. “To the women who have experienced a “Mister” know that God will strike em down to they feet. They’ll try to kill you if you let’em.” She continued,
“‘Until you do right by me, everything you think about is gonna crumble. Until you do right by me, everything you even think about gonna fail.’
The movie was POWERFUL.”
