“Nipple Gate” was allegedly carefully calculated by Justin Timberlake months after Britney Spears, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera performed their three-way kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards. Stylist Wayne Scot Lukas said in an exclusive to Page Six that it was originally planned for Janet Jackson to wear a pearl G-string but the idea was changed at the last minute. “Janet was going to be in a Rocha dress, and [Justin] was going to step on the back of her dress to reveal her butt in this pearl G-string, the outfit changed a couple of days before, and you saw the magic,” he said.

Lukas added that Jackson’s nipple reveal wasn’t considered a wardrobe malfunction because “it did what it intended to do.” Although Timberlake has apologized to Jackson for not supporting her during the public outrage, she reportedly has expressed forgiveness in private.

The veteran stylist says he will not reveal any more secrets about Jackson since she is considered a friend and he has nothing but positive things to say about her.

Jackson and Timberlake’s teams did not issue a statement regarding the behind-the-scenes planning.
