Justice Department Fires Maurene Comey, Daughter of Former FBI Director James Comey
The Justice Department has quietly dismissed Maurene Comey, a high-profile federal prosecutor best known for her involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein and Diddy cases—and the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey.
According to CNN, the exact reason behind her termination hasn’t been publicly disclosed. But a source close to the situation speculated that her father’s contentious history with the Trump administration may have played a role in the decision.
James Comey’s Shadow Over His Daughter’s Career
Maurene’s father, James Comey, has remained a controversial figure in political and legal circles since being fired by former President Donald Trump in 2017. He is now reportedly under investigation for possibly making false statements to Congress, and his social media activity has added fuel to the fire.
In May, Comey was questioned by the U.S. Secret Service after posting a photo of seashells that spelled out “86 47”—a phrase many interpreted as a coded threat to the 47th president, Donald Trump. Comey has since denied that the post had any violent intent.
Maurene Comey’s Work on the Epstein and Diddy Cases
Maurene Comey played a key role as one of the lead prosecutors in the Jeffrey Epstein case, overseeing the investigation into the late financier’s alleged trafficking ring and the prosecution of Ghislaine Maxwell.
More recently, she was reportedly involved in aspects of the ongoing legal proceedings against Sean “Diddy” Combs, though the scope of her work in that case remains sealed.
Her dismissal comes at a time when public demand for transparency surrounding Epstein’s files is once again growing. The Trump administration has recently declared that it does not plan to release any additional Epstein-related documents, stating that there is “no client list” in the records available to the Department of Justice.
