Judge Rules Kobe Bryant’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, Will NOT Have To Undergo A Psychiatric Evaluation In Her Lawsuit Against Los Angeles County

As we previously reported, the county of Los Angeles had the audacity to try and force Vanessa Bryant and other surviving family members of the fatal helicopter crash to submit to psychiatric examinations — an attempt to help the county prove a critical point in their legal dispute.

Following the 2020 helicopter crash that killed her husband, Kobe Bryant, and 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, Vanessa Bryant filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and its deputies, accusing them of sharing images of the crash site with people who were not involved in the case. Her suit is seeking damages for negligence, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. However, in attempt to fight her claims, the Los Angeles county requested for her to take the exam to try to figure out if “Vanessa Bryant and the others suffer emotional distress because photos of their dead relatives shared by county fire and sheriff’s department employees after the crash? Or did their emotional distress stem only from the tragic crash itself?” USA Today notes.

According to the latest update in this case by the Los Angeles Times, a federal judge ultimately ruled Monday that Vanessa Bryant will NOT have to undergo a psychiatric exam as part of her lawsuit against Los Angeles County: “The County’s tactics are simply a cruel attempt to extract a price for victims to obtain accountability,” Bryant’s attorney, Luis Li, wrote in a court filing, via the Los Angeles Times. “Rather than take accountability for conduct the Sheriff himself has called ‘wildly inappropriate’ and ‘disgusting,’ the County has chosen to pull out all the stops to make the case as painful as possible.”

Last month, Vanessa noted that she was suing in hopes of getting some “accountability” from the eight deputies who she claims took pictures of the crash victims with their cell phones.
