Judge Orders ‘Unconditional Release’ For Man Who Attempted To Assassinate President Reagan
John Hinckley Jr., the man who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan will reportedly be unconditionally released from court opposed restrictions as long as he stays mentally stable and away from criminal activities.
Hinckley attempted to shoot the President in 1981 and was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Per NBC News, after jurors found him not guilty by reason of insanity, they said he needed treatment for his mental health and not to be locked up behind bars. He was sent to live in a hospital.

“If he hadn’t tried to kill a president, he would have been in unconditional release long, long ago,” U.S. District Court Judge Paul Friedman said of Hinckley. “I’m going to, after all of these years, grant unconditional release to Mr. Hinckley. … I think it’s probably overdue given the record in this case.”

Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy and Washington police officer Thomas Delahanty were also injured as a result.
