In a report by TMZ, Linda Tirado filed a lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis and MPD Police Chief Medaria Arrandondo for violating her First Amendment rights, Fourth Amendment rights, and damages for her injuries. On May 29, Tirado was covering the George Floyd protests when the curfew was implemented when officers told her to leave the area. She informed them that she was a member of the press but they ignored her credentials.

Shortly after, the officers fired several foam bullets at her face and protestors helped to bring her to a medic who took her to a nearby hospital.

Tirado says the injury has left her completely blind and it will have long term effects on her children who are aged 9 and 7. Her oldest child is autistic and may “need therapy to work through her trauma associated with her mother’s injury” as documented by the lawsuit. Her youngest child may need therapy as well.
