Jordan Peele Reacts To ‘Nope’ Movie Being Turned Into Universal Studios Attraction: ‘I’m Very Proud’

Jordan Peele is ecstatic with the recent announcement that Universal Studios Hollywood is adding a brand new attraction to its site, which is based on the director’s upcoming movie, “Nope.” Earlier this month, it was revealed that upon the film’s release on Friday, Universal Studios Hollywood will also be opening its doors of the latest addition to its theme park, where the set of Jupiter’s Claim — a central location in the horror movie — becomes part of its permanent Studio Tour.

According to reports, the set was carefully disassembled after the movie finished filming before being transported over to the popular Universal backlot, where staff have been busy replicating the construction as it appears in the flick. And it goes without saying that the praiseworthy honor certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Jordan, who says he’s “very proud” of what the team has developed.

“This is a piece of the Nope set that is a sort of mom-and-pop theme park owned by a former child star in the film, so it’s very meta,” the Oscar-award-winning director told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s on the Universal backlot tour and it’s the first time anything like this has happened, where the actual set is showcased as the movie is coming out. I am very proud.”

As the filmmaker already mentioned, it’s uncommon for studio tours to debut an attraction on the same day that its corresponding project is released, but it would appear as if Universal Studios could be looking to turn “Nope” into a full-on franchise that spans several movies in years to come.

Fans may recall how Jurassic World – The Ride didn’t make its debut to the public until three years after the movie was released. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, too, didn’t come about until 2010, nine years after the first installment had entered theaters. Needless to say, creating adventure theme parks takes a lot of time and can get very costly, which usually depends on the film’s success.

Given that Universal Studios is taking a different approach by releasing both the movie and its attraction on the same day, it’s evidently harder to predict how popular the additional part of the park will fare in due time.

Without giving away too much of what fans can expect at Jupiter’s Claim, Jordan added, “I am not going to say a lot, but in some ways [Ricky] kind of represents me and my relationship with the industry.”

“Nope” enters theaters on July 22.
