Ex-Disney Executive Believes Johnny Depp Will Return To ‘Pirates of The Caribbean’ After Amber Heard Defamation Trial Win

Johnny Depp rejoiced after winning his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard on Wednesday. And now it’s been reported that there’s a good chance the actor could potentially reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ box office franchise. For those who followed the explosive six-week trial at the Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia, the father-of-two claimed that because of allegations made by Amber concerning domestic abuse before and after the release of her 2018 Washington Post op-ed, his ties with Disney had turned sour and subsequently resulted in the studio’s decision not to move ahead with a sixth installment.

And while Johnny insisted during his testimony that he would not even consider wanting to work with Disney again for ousting him over the allegations he had vehemently denied, a former Walt Disney Studios executive believes producers will want to pursue the 58-year-old to make his highly-anticipated return to the big screen in a follow-up ‘Pirates’ flick. “I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board,” the former executive, whose identity was not disclosed, told People.

“There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture. With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is a huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises.”

It’s no secret that as the lead star in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ Johnny helped soar the films to box office success, with all five movies amassing a combined total of $4.4 billion in ticket sales and therefore becoming one of the biggest Hollywood franchises in decades. Johnny famously earned himself an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Jack Sparrow in the first installment, 2003’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’.

The sequels carried on with new releases in 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2017. A sixth film was said to have been discussed, but following Amber’s claims of having endured domestic abuse at the hands of Johnny, the possibility of another ‘Pirates’ movie was scrapped in fear that the studio would give the impression they were supporting an alleged abuser. Now that Johnny has won his defamation case, though, it seems as if things are quickly turning around for the actor, though it’s still unclear whether he would even want to entertain the idea of working with Disney again.
