Kate Moss To Testify In Johnny Depp Defamation Trial After Amber Heard’s Controversial ‘Stairs’ Claim

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Kate Moss will reportedly be testifying in Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. According to The New York Post, Kate, who formerly dated Johnny in the ‘90s, will be called to the stand on Wednesday via video link after Amber had brought up the supermodel’s name while giving her own testimony earlier this month, where she implied that the Black Mass star had allegedly once pushed his ex-girlfriend down a flight of stairs during their relationship.

Kate and Johnny dated for just under four years before their split in 1997, and while it’s unclear whether they’ve remained in contact over the years, the British fashion icon has only ever spoken highly of her former beau in public. However, when Amber gave her testimony in early May, she recalled an incident between her and Johnny that quickly escalated when her sister Whitney got involved and tried to diffuse the pair’s quarrel. The Aquaman actress asserted that her ex allegedly swung at Whitney, who was standing near a staircase, prompting her to think of Kate, as it had once been rumored that the 48-year-old was tossed down a flight of stairs by Johnny.

Fans who have been watching the trial since April will recall how Johnny’s legal team appeared cheerful by the claim because the allegation has subsequently allowed them to bring Kate to testify in the trial. “That’s one mistake that [Heard] made, was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness,” California entertainment lawyer Mitra Ahouraian told The Post. A source added, “Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn’t be further from the truth.”

As previously reported, Amber and Johnny have been going head-to-head at a Fairfax courthouse in Virginia after the latter sued his ex-wife for a 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post, claiming she was a victim of domestic abuse. While she did not mention Johnny by name, the written piece was published a year after the couple’s divorce, heavily implying that the Texas native was referring to the man she had divorced in 2017.

During Amber’s final day of cross-examination, she also claimed that Johnny had run a smear campaign against her after his attorney Camille Vasquez questioned her about a previous physical altercation she had at a Seattle airport involving her ex-girlfriend Tasya Van Ree in 2009. “You committed domestic violence against Ms Van Reed didn’t you?” Camille asked, to which Amber said, “No, I did not.”

Camille further pressed with a follow-up, “You assaulted her at a Seattle airport in 2009, didn’t you?’ to which Heard replied again: ‘No, I did not. And people saw that.” Amber, clearly in denial about the assault, argued, “It was planted in the press by Johnny’s team days after I got the TRO. Not coincidentally.”
