Johnny Depp Denied Appeal In Libel Case Against Tabloid Calling Him ‘Wife Beater’
Johnny Depp has hit a major loss in his libel case against UK publisher News Group Newspapers, whose tabloid (publication) The Sun called him a “wife beater.” Depp was seeking an appeal, which has now been denied.
It’s reported that Depp was trying to overturn a decision in his case after Judge Andrew Niccol ruled that the publication was fair in calling him a “wife beater.” In a 14-page document shared this morning (Mar. 25), Judge Niccol said the reference was “substantially true” in regard to his relationship with ex-wife Amber Heard — who he’s been in a nasty divorce battle with.

Despite Judge Niccol’s decision, Depp’s attorney Joelle Rich is “seriously questioning” the court’s decision against her client. However, now that his appeal has been denied, Depp and his legal team will now focus on his $50 million defamation trial in the U.S. against Heard, which has been delayed to April 11, 2022. Meanwhile, Heard is currently pursuing a $100 million countersuit.
