Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Alludes To His Client Not Wanting To Take $10 Million From Ex-Wife Amber Heard Following Defamation Trial Win

Johnny Depp‘s lawyers, Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew, sat down for an interview on Good Morning America, exactly one week after winning their client’s defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard. As previously revealed, the father-of-two filed a lawsuit over Amber’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, where she claimed to have been the victim of domestic abuse. And though she never mentioned Johnny by his name, it was heavily insinuated that she was referring to her volatile marriage with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star.

And on Wednesday, Benjamin and Camille spoke out in one of their first televised interviews since the jury’s verdict was read, with Johnny being awarded $15 million — $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive. But because the state law only permits up to $350,000 in punitive damages, the total amount was reduced to $10.35 million. With that said, it seems as if the Hollywood star may not be pursuing Amber for the hefty sum after all.

After being quizzed about Amber allegedly having reached a financial struggle to pay the judgment, Benjamin expressed that the court case was never about winning millions if the jury were to side with him in the trial. “We obviously can’t disclose attorney-client communications, but as Mr. Depp testified, this was never about money for Mr. Depp,” he said. “This was about restoring his reputation — and he’s done that.”

Later on during their chat with Savannah, both Camille and Benjamin were then quizzed on a remark previously made by Amber’s legal team, who said they’d be hoping to appeal the verdict, to which Benjamin responded, “We feel very confident that there are no errors that would justify any kind of successful appeal.”

“The key to victory was focusing on the facts and the evidence, and Johnny’s opportunity to speak the truth for the first time,” Camille continued, reminding Savannah and viewers at home that it had been “six years in the making. We believe that evidence speaks for itself. … The jury made a unanimous decision based on those facts.”

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the “Aquaman 2” star gave a statement following Johnny’s decision to join TikTok, where he has already amassed over 5 million followers in a matter of days. For his first post, he shared a series of clips from the past few weeks of his life, with a thank you message in the caption to his supportive fans.

“To all of my most treasured, loyal and unwavering supporters. We’ve been everywhere together, we have seen everything together. We have walked the same road together,” he penned. “We did the right thing together, all because you cared. And now, we will all move forward together.”

This prompted a response from Amber’s rep, who said, “As Johnny Depp says he’s “moving forward,” women’s rights are moving backwards. The verdict’s message to victims of domestic violence is … be afraid to stand up and speak out.”
