Donald Trump Loses 2025 Nobel Peace Prize To Venezuelan Opposition Leader María Corina Machado, Both Speak Out

As we previously shared, earlier this week, Trump failed to win the coveted prize — which is is one of the most prestigious awards in the world, recognizing individuals or organizations that have made extraordinary contributions toward peace, democracy, and human rights. The award was established in 1901 and has been awarded to figures like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Malala Yousafzai, and many more.

Instead, on Friday (October 10), the big honor went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. The Nobel Peace Prize committee revealed they awarded Machado for “her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.” The committee added:

“María Corina Machado has shown that the tools of democracy are also the tools of peace. She embodies the hope of a different future, one where the fundamental rights of citizens are protected and their voices are heard. In this future, people will finally be free to live in peace.”

Reacting to the big win, Machado said in an X statement:

“This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom. I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!”

Meanwhile, the White House’s Director of Communications and Trump’s aide also spoke out on Trump’s loss. In a statement, Cheung wrote:

“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace. [Trump will] continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.”

Later Friday evening, Trump addressed his loss with press and claimed the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner called him and said that he really deserved the award. He said:

“The person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today, called me and said, ‘I’m accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it.’ A very nice thing to do. I didn’t, I didn’t say, ‘Then give it to me,’ though I think she might have. She was very nice. I’ve been helping her along the way. They need a lot of help in Venezuela, it’s a basic disaster. So, and you could also say it was given out for ’24 and I was running for office in ‘24.”

John Legend Pushes For President Donald Trump To Win 2026 Nobel Peace Prize After Losing 2025 Award He Campaigned For

Since Trump’s 2025 Nobel Peace Prize loss, singer John Legend is pushing for POTUS to try again next year. Legend posted a 6-minute video to his Instagram sharing his remarks. He captioned the post, “Trump for Peace Prize 2026!”

In his lengthy video, the Grammy Award-winner says a peace deal between Israel and Gaza is a good start for Trump to earn a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. He says if Trump really wants to win, he has to be able to take the National Guard out of American cities and stop ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) from terrorizing communities of color.
